For decades, Leora Gaspar was the beautician to the stars and bigwigs in Montecito. She counts Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres as her former clients.

She ran Red Studio on Coast Village Road, where she provided haircuts, color services, blow-drying, manicures, pedicures, makeup, facials, eyelash extensions, hair extensions and other services.

However, like so many businesses, the COVID-19 pandemic hit her hard. The Montecito debris flow also previously affected her business. So, she chose to downsize her store and move into a new place on upper State Street in Santa Barbara.

“It’s a beautiful big space,” Gaspar said.

She took over a former Supercuts building, and replaced the purple with bright red. The space was vacant for two years.

She specializes in hair replacement.

“A lot of women lose hair on the top of their head, and it’s not really accepted like it is with men,” she said.

She also loves getting people ready for events with blow-drying and eyelashes.

Gaspar has been in the profession for 30 years, and she said she loves to mentor stylists.

“What I love to do is more than a paycheck,” Gaspar said.

She opened about three weeks ago and is hoping her clients from Montecito find her in the shopping center. It’s a different vibe than Montecito, so she’s still getting the feel of the Santa Barbara culture.

“We just had a great thing for a really long time,” said Gaspar, who was trained in Europe. “I love it. There’s no one in town who does hair like us.”

The studio is at 3609 State St., Suite A. The Leta Gets New Management Company
